Simple Gluten-free Cheesy Garlic Hoagie Buns

These gluten-free hoagie buns not only have incredible flavor and texture, but they are the EASIEST to make with everything being mixed in a single bowl.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups Pamela’s 1:1 gluten-free flour see notes below for other brand flour blends
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup or sugar
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 + 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk warm
  • 4 tbsp butter softened + extra for rolling
  • 4 eggs divided
  • 3/4 cup shredded cheese divided
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions
 

  • Mix dry ingredients together.
  • Add maple syrup if not using sugar.
  • Mix in 1/2 cup of shredded cheese.
  • Mix in milk.
  • Mix in butter.
  • Mix in 3 eggs, 1 at a time.
  • Beat on high for 3 minutes.
  • Cover in bowl & let rise for 1 hour.
  • Grease or line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper.
  • With buttered hands, take a handful of dough & roll into a log shape.
  • NOTE: Do not over-shape or buns will be tough. Dough should yield 8-12 buns.
  • Cover with a towel or greased plastic wrap & let rise 45-60 minutes. Dough should approximately double in size.
  • Just before baking, beat 1 egg for egg wash & gently apply to top of buns using a pastry brush.
  • Sprinkle remaining shredded cheese on top of buns.
  • Bake at 350°F for approximately 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove from oven & butter top of buns.

Notes

This recipe calls for Pamela’s 1:1 gluten-free flour specifically because the flour blend contains guar gum as the binder instead of xanthan gum.
Pamela’s 1:1 gluten-free flour blend binds stronger than other blends, that is why it works so great for the following recipes.
If you cannot find Pamela’s brand, here is what I have tested and also works with a blend containing xanthan gum (I specifically did my testing with Bob’s Red Mill 1:1 gluten-free baking flour). You will also need psyllium husk.
