Creamy Homestyle Mashed Potatoes

Simple and delicious mashed potatoes that can be served classic or customized to a variety of flavors.

Ingredients
  

  • 5 medium potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1–3 tablespoons milk
  • Salt to taste (optional but recommended)

Instructions
 

  • Peel and chop the potatoes
  • Wash, peel, and cut your potatoes into evenly sized chunks. This helps them cook evenly.
  • Boil until tender
  • Place the potatoes in a pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for about 15–20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  • Drain the potatoes thoroughly and transfer to a mixing bowl (or bowl for hand mashing)
  • For the creamiest texture I prefer to use my stand mixer.
  • Mash and mix
  • Add the butter and continue mashing. Slowly add milk, starting with 1 tablespoon and increasing until you reach your desired creaminess.
  • Season to taste.
  • Add salt if desired and mix until smooth and creamy.
