Creamy Homestyle Mashed Potatoes
Simple and delicious mashed potatoes that can be served classic or customized to a variety of flavors.

- 5 medium potatoes
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1–3 tablespoons milk
- Salt to taste (optional but recommended)
Peel and chop the potatoes
Wash, peel, and cut your potatoes into evenly sized chunks. This helps them cook evenly.
Boil until tender
Place the potatoes in a pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for about 15–20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
Drain the potatoes thoroughly and transfer to a mixing bowl (or bowl for hand mashing)
For the creamiest texture I prefer to use my stand mixer.
Mash and mix
Add the butter and continue mashing. Slowly add milk, starting with 1 tablespoon and increasing until you reach your desired creaminess.
Season to taste.
Add salt if desired and mix until smooth and creamy.
